Liga BBVA

The Spanish Football League is today one of the world's top leagues. It has been held annually since the 1928-1929 season, being the first champion FC Barcelona. In that first 10-team tournament, as well as Barcelona were: Athletic Bilbao, Real Madrid, Arenas, Real Sociedad, Real Union of Iruan, Espanyol, Atletico Madrid, Europe and Racing Santander .

From the 1934-1935 season, the tournament was moved to play with 12 teams, but during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), the tournament had to stop, once the war resumed with the same equipment. The tournament was originally organized by the RFEF, happened to be organized by the LFP from the 1986-1987 season, have since used the playoff system, hence the following year began to play the tournament with that system system (all against all).

Throughout the history of the First Division Championship in Spain, 55 equpos participated in it, but only 3 were present in all tournaments, the Athletic Club de Bilbao, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid and only 9 of the 55 participating clubs have been able to win the tournament, Real Madrid with 32 championships, followed by FC Barcelona with 21, Atlético de Madrid with 9, with 8 the Athletic de Bilbao, Valencia FC with 6, the Real Sociedad with 2 and Deportivo la Coruña, Real Betis and Sevilla have won one.

The Spanish league has always been the most important in the world and the second half of the twentieth century has drawn on some of the best players in the world, as the great Alfredo Di Stefano, Johan Cruyff and Diego Maradona. And the Liga BBVA (with Real Madrid at the top) has become the main protagonist of many of the most important signings of recent years.

La Liga BBVA, also known today as the "League of the Stars" is probably the best championship today and the proof is that the last two winners of the Golden Ball and the almost certain winner of this year are the three most expensive players in the world which are playing in Spain, we are talking of course of Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
